Agriculture in Tocantins: Native vegetation: Land use and occupation.Abstract
This study aims to describe the land cover and land use mapping in the state of Tocantins between 2015 and 2023. It is noteworthy that the state of Tocantins belongs to the MATOPIBA region (Maranhão, Tocantins, Piaui, and Bahia), and that the state has been increasing its agricultural potential. In this sense, the work was developed in two stages: the first stage corresponds to the use of geoprocessing as a tool to identify land cover and land use in the state of Tocantins between 2015 and 2023 and its changes during this 8-year period; the second stage correlates the data obtained with scientific bibliographic discussions. It was observed that there were changes in land use and occupation, with a decrease in native vegetation of 3.3% and an increase in agricultural area of 3%. The three main soil types (Plinthosols, Neosols, and Latosols) account for approximately 80% of the total area of the State of Tocantins, highlighting their significant representation in the state's soil composition.
