MANDELIC ACID: EFFECTS AND COMBINATIONS IN FACIAL TREATMENTS

This study is an integrative review aimed at synthesizing primary studies and research findings on mandelic acid and its chemical combinations in facial treatments. The guiding question is: "What are the effects and chemical combinations of mandelic acid in facial treatments?". Data collection involved searching for articles on platforms such as SCIELO, LILACS, PubMed, Science Direct, Virtual Health Library, as well as university and federal entity websites. The terms used were mandelic acid, facial treatments, and skin. Studies published between 2013 and 2023 were included, encompassing primary studies such as clinical trials, prevalence studies, case reports, and secondary studies such as systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and clinical practice guidelines. Exclusions comprised conference abstracts, editorials, award results, and studies focusing on tool evaluation. Results indicated that the combination of mandelic acid with others, such as salicylic acid, is effective in treating mild to moderate acne, providing a higher and lasting therapeutic response. Mandelic acid exhibits gentle responses in facial rejuvenation, effectively treating hyperpigmentation, acne scars, and lightening hyperchromic spots. Studies suggest that topical application improves facial skin elasticity and firmness. Final considerations highlight the importance of mandelic acid and its chemical combinations in facial treatments, emphasizing efficacy and safety. However, further research is needed to explore its potential and enhance visibility and adoption in aesthetics. The study concludes that mandelic acid is promising for treating various skin problems, offering significant results with minimal adverse effects.
