This study analyzes the cost of basic food in Cáceres, MT, considering socioeconomic factors such as inequality and inflation. The research, conducted between April and September 2024, collected prices of basic food items from local markets. The methodology adopted a quantitative approach, analyzing data using Excel software and calculating the total cost of the food basket for two distinct periods based on the average prices of the products. The results revealed that, despite price fluctuations, the increase between the two periods was minimal, with the average cost of the basic food basket rising by only R$ 7.97. The study applied the ABC Curve to classify the most representative items in the total cost of the basket, revealing that meat, bread, and fruits accounted for 54% of the total value. The study concludes that access to basic food remains a significant challenge for low-income families in Cáceres, emphasizing the need for public policies to control prices of the most impactful items on family budgets.
