ECOLOGICAL ANALYSIS OF THE FILMS VIER MINUTEN AND GIRL, INTERRUPTED: INSTITUTIONALIZATION, PSYCHOLOGICAL SUFFERING, AND STIGMA

This study proposes an ecological analysis of women’s life trajectories marked by stigma and psychological distress in institutional settings, based on the films Vier Minuten (Germany) and Girl, Interrupted (United States) as the basis for analysis. The theoretical framework is based on Urie Bronfenbrenner’s Bioecological Model of Human Development, with an emphasis on the Process-Person-Context-Time (PPCT) elements, linked to the sociological film analysis proposed by Keppler and Peltzer. Methodologically, were broken down into visual and auditory dimensions (such as lighting, camera work, and soundtrack) to identify how the narratives reflect social control and tensions in these environments. The results of the analysis of the characters Jenny von Loeben and Lisa Rowe indicate that, despite differences in time and context (the German prison system and the American psychiatric clinic), both face similar vulnerabilities and marginalization. These women suffer a double condemnation and invisibility: pathologization of their psychological suffering and institutional gender stigma.Downloads
