CULTURAL HERITAGE AND DEVELOPMENT: THE LISTING OF THE BERTASO FAMILY’S “CASTELINHO”

The article addresses, through documentary research, the listing action referring to the property popularly known in the municipality of Chapecó as “O Castelinho” of the Bertaso family, built in the 1950s, with an architectural look unusual to that observed in existing buildings in the municipality at that time. period, mostly made of wood. The property has undergone several uses, in addition to residential, and in 2018, through popular movement, actions were requested by the public authorities, to preserve the property, which was involved as part of a residential project, unrelated with its historical context and putting into discussion what would become of it, which, until that moment, even with attributes for its declaration as cultural heritage, was without any means of legal protection. In this context, there is a need to build local identity, form memories related to the history of the community, initiating heritage education actions, a tool for this purpose.
