MEDICATION ERRORS IN PEDIATRIC ICU: PREVENTION STRATEGIES AND THE IMPACT OF PHARMACEUTICAL INTERVENTION – AN INTEGRATIVE REVIEW

Medication errors in the pediatric ICU can trigger serious harm to patient health, prolong hospitalization, increase costs for the healthcare system, and even cause patient death. The pharmacist's role as a permanent member of the multidisciplinary team can contribute to reducing medication errors and other problems related to drug treatment. This study aims to analyze the pharmacist's role in the pediatric ICU and the strategies that can be adopted to prevent medication errors. The study will be conducted through an integrative literature review, meeting the following inclusion criteria: original, full-text, and free studies, published in English or Portuguese between 2020 and 2024, with a thematic focus on the pharmacist's role in the pediatric ICU. Searches will be conducted using the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO); Latin American and Caribbean Literature in Health Sciences (LILACS); and the PubMed Central (PMC) search engine. The selected studies will be described using summary tables, highlighting the title, objectives, method, and main results of each publication. Data collection will be based on a complete reading of each article. The analysis and interpretation of the studies will be carried out using a critical and reflective approach. A discussion of the results will be constructed with the aid of other studies available in the literature.
