Abstract

The aim of this study was to report on the occurrence of accidents during or after endodontic treatment through a systematic review of the literature, with a view to presenting the most common accidents and complications in this field, as well as highlighting the protocol that should be followed if they occur. A systematic review of the literature was conducted using the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), Virtual Health Library (VHL), and PubMed, aiming to gather international literature published between 2021 and 2025. After a two-stage screening process, only nine (09) peer-reviewed journal articles were relevant and included in the review. Endodontic complications represent significant challenges in clinical practice, impacting treatment success and patients' oral health. It is clear that complications in endodontics are multifaceted and can occur at any stage of treatment, from access to the postoperative period. Prevention, early diagnosis, and proper management of these complications are crucial for treatment success and maintaining the patient's oral health. Constant updating and improvement of clinical skills are imperative for endodontists who seek to provide the best possible care. A detailed understanding of each complication, including its causes, clinical manifestations, and therapeutic approaches, is essential to mitigate the risk of treatment failure and ensure the longevity of the tooth.
