THE ROLE OF THE PHARMACIST IN THE MULTIPROFESSIONALTEAM IN MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES: A NORMATIVE ANALYSIS

Mental health practices have undergone significant changes following the Psychiatric Reform, with care in freedom, patient autonomy, and comprehensive care provided by a multidisciplinary team currently being emphasized. This study descriptively and exploratorily analyzes the current regulations governing the role of pharmacists within multidisciplinary teams in mental health services, identifying their responsibilities, competencies, and legal support in psychosocial care. Resolutions and ordinances issued by the Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (ANVISA), the Federal Council of Pharmacy (CFF), and the Ministry of Health were analyzed. The findings indicate a normative evolution
over time, with an expansion of pharmaceutical practice from activities initially restricted to technical and sanitary aspects toward a clinical perspective integrated into multidisciplinary teams. Legal advances highlight the strengthening of the pharmacist’s clinical role in mental health care; however,
challenges remain regarding their effective integration into services, as institutions still do not clearly define the pharmacist’s role within multidisciplinary teams.
