Breast cancer is the neoplasm that predominantly affects women, representing a major public health problem. This neoplasm is related to several factors, which may be genetic, endocrine, behavioral, and environmental. Despite scientific advances, mortality remains high, especially when diagnosis is late. Early detection and appropriate treatment are fundamental to reducing complications and improving quality of life. This research aims to report the experience of a woman diagnosed early at age 42 with breast cancer and to highlight prevention strategies. This study is an exploratory descriptive case report with a qualitative approach. Articles were found in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) in the following databases: Scielo, Medline, and Lilacs. The search terms used were: Women's Health; Breast Neoplasms; and Nursing. Studies from the last 5 years (2019-2023) were used. To complement the research, a data collection instrument was developed, based on the evidence and experiences of the interviewed patient. Based on the presented preliminary project, it is expected that this study will highlight the patient's information, allowing other women to feel supported and represented. Therefore, it is understood that the research shows that screening and early detection are still the most effective strategy for diagnosis, especially in women over 40 years of age. Furthermore, it is important to ensure that women have access to appropriate treatment and emotional support, minimizing the physical, psychological, and social impacts of the disease.
