This article analyzes the importance of workplace safety in civil construction, especially in regions
with seismic activity. Through a comparative study of construction standards adopted in Chile
(NCh433.Of96) and Thailand (Building Control Act - B.E. 2522), the study investigates the causes
of the collapse of a building in Bangkok in 2025, which resulted in the deaths of dozens of
workers. The study demonstrates that factors such as the absence of structural reinforcement, the
use of inadequate materials, inspection failures, and inefficient project design in the face of
potential seismic shocks were key contributors to the tragedy. The analysis highlights the
necessity of updated regulations, strict inspections, and proper structural planning as fundamental
pillars for preserving lives and ensuring the integrity of construction projects in earthquake-prone
regions.
