Composites based on the interaction between polymers and inorganics encounter today's world's need for new materials with alternative raw materials and a good properties/cost ratio. In this context, the present work presents the results of the study of obtaining composites between HDPE (high density polyethylene) and SiO2 synthesized using the Pechini method. The composites were processed in a single-screw extruder and formed into films by pressing. The thermal profiles obtained showed that the presence of SiO2 has not change the thermal stability of the polymer, but the crystallinity index decreased, which may be associated to the disorganization of the HDPE chains. SEM analyzes revealed the potential of the system, but also the need to use a compatibilizer.
