Abstract

Skin aging is a natural biological process characterized by structural and functional changes in the skin, resulting in loss of elasticity, firmness, hydration, and the appearance of wrinkles and expression lines. In this context, microneedling has been increasingly used in aesthetic treatments due to its potential to stimulate collagen production and promote tissue regeneration. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of microneedling in facial rejuvenation through an integrative literature review. The search was conducted in the PubMed, SciELO, Virtual Health Library (VHL), and Google Scholar databases using controlled and uncontrolled descriptors related to microneedling, facial rejuvenation, collagen induction, and aesthetics. Studies published between 2017 and 2026, available in full text and directly related to the proposed theme, were included. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, five studies composed the final sample. The analyzed studies suggested that microneedling may contribute to improvements in skin texture, firmness, elasticity, and reduction of facial wrinkles through controlled inflammatory stimulation and neocollagenesis. However, methodological differences among the studies, including variations in needle depth, number of sessions, and associated topical agents, limited the standardization of the results. Therefore, although the findings indicate promising effects of microneedling for facial rejuvenation, further studies with standardized protocols and greater methodological rigor are still necessary.
