A PARTICIPAÇÃO DO SELÊNIO NOS MECANISMOS LIGADOS AO HIPOTIREOIDISMO

O presente trabalho tem como objetivo apresentar de forma clara e concisa o funcionamento da glândula tireoide e a atuação do selênio nos mecanismos no hipotireoidismo. Trata-se de uma revisão integrativa. Os dados foram coletados durante os meses de fevereiro a maio de 2022. A seleção de referências foi feita nas bases de dados eletrônicas Google Acadêmico e National Library of Medicine (MEDLINE), além de livros com abordagem ligada ao assunto. A glândula tireoide por meio da excreção de hormônios controla uma serie de reações metabólicas importantes, quando há falha ou mal funcionamento, pode vir a desenvolver patologias a exemplo o hipotireoidismo, que afeta milhões de brasileiros. A tireoide é a glândula com maior quantidade de selênio por grama de tecido. Ele atua como um mecanismo antioxidante, protetor e por meio das selenocisteinas intermedia diversos processos importantes na glândula. O selênio desempenha junto a tireoide um trabalho indispensável, tanto por sua função antioxidante e de cofator, como por sua atuação por meio das muitas selenocisteinas ligadas aos diversos processos que envolvem o funcionamento e a produção de hormônios da tireoide.
