Abstract

Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita (AMC) is a rare syndrome characterized by multiple congenital joint contractures, affecting mobility and functionality. This case report describes a 10-year-old patient with distal AMC and bilateral congenital clubfoot, who underwent surgeries and physiotherapy starting from age 3. Fifteen sessions out of 38 scheduled were conducted, focusing on stretching, mobilizations, gait training, balance, and strengthening. There was improvement in postural control, balance, and gait, with adaptations for initial non-adaptation. The results obtained in this case report demonstrate that the individualized physiotherapeutic intervention, focusing on stretching, mobilizations, gait training, balance, and resisted strengthening, promoted significant gains in postural control, balance, and gait pattern of the patient with distal AMC and bilateral congenital clubfoot, aligning with evidence from the literature. Physiotherapy optimizes quality of life in AMC, recommending longitudinal studies.
