O setor da construção civil consome grande quantidade de recursos naturais, o que leva a gerar uma quantidade significativa de resíduos sólidos, que na maioria das vezes são descartados de forma inapropriada, causando poluição ambiental. Diante deste cenário a engenharia civil vem buscando adaptar-se a projetos e construções que tendem a apresentar alternativas que leva a conservação dos recursos naturais. Nesse sentido, o tijolo solo-cimento pode ser uma alternativa para minimizar esses problemas ambientais de forma econômica, e garantir um projeto de qualidade e economicamente viável para a sociedade. Sendo assim essa pesquisa tem como objetivo comparar o tijolo solo-cimento com o tijolo cerâmico com a finalidade de analisar os aspectos econômicos e sustentáveis de cada um, além de descrever as vantagens e desvantagens da utilização dos tijolos na execução da obra, visando buscar o melhor material para a construção de uma HIS (Habitação de Interesse Social) na cidade de Teófilo Otoni-MG, o que justifica esse estudo comparativo do tijolo solo-cimento com o tijolo cerâmico. A metodologia utilizada nesse estudo tem natureza quantitativa e descritiva, baseando-se em levantamento de dados e revisão bibliográfica fundamentada em artigos científicos, livros e periódicos referentes ao uso do tijolo solo-cimento, tijolo cerâmico e HIS.
