Introduction: Drug-nutrient interaction refers to the way in which nutrients from food interact with medications, and how they interfere with the therapeutic response through possible alterations they cause in the body. Objective: To highlight and discuss the nutritional aspects of drug-nutrient interactions and whether nutritionists are prepared to manage these situations. Methodology: Narrative review study with information search in the electronic databases PubMed/Medline, Lilacs and Scielo, using the terms and descriptors "food-drug interaction", "food", "absorption", "nutritional status", "drug treatment" and "nutritionists", whose studies were published between 2000 and 2025. Results: From the discussion points, it was possible to understand that drug-nutrient interactions are characterized by alterations in the pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic mechanisms of a drug or nutrient, and that drugs can modify the metabolism of nutrients, and these interactions usually impact nutritional status. However, the few studies on the subject show that nutrition academics and nutritionists have knowledge gaps and uncertainties regarding drug-nutrient interactions. Final considerations: the knowledge gap and uncertainties on the part of nutritionists in managing drug-nutrient interactions may be related to a potentially systemic failure involving training, service, multidisciplinary team, and institutional policies.
