Objective: To promote cardiovascular and metabolic health in older adults through physical activities, functional assessments, and social integration actions, as well as to contribute to the practical and humanized training of Physiotherapy students. Methodology: Conducted between August and December 2024, the project took place in a community service center for social interaction and bond strengthening, located in a parish in the eastern area of Teresina. Activities included vital sign measurements, functional assessments, stretching, and physical exercises supervised by Family Health residents and a faculty member, with the participation of UESPI undergraduate students. Results: The findings indicated improvements in physical conditioning and functional fitness of the older adults, associated with increased socialization and community integration. Participant reports revealed satisfaction with the improvement in quality of life and the deconstruction of stereotypes about aging. For the students, the project provided meaningful practical experience, enhancing their understanding of the needs of the geriatric population and strengthening their skills in humanized care.
Conclusion: Therefore, the initiative reaffirms the importance of university extension as a tool for promoting the health and well-being of older adults, also contributing to the training of more sensitive and prepared professionals. The direct interaction between the university and the community proved fundamental for strengthening social bonds, combating prejudice, and valuing active aging.
