Resumen

La depresión es un trastorno psiquiátrico caracterizado por cambios transitorios del estado de ánimo sin razón o desproporcionados a la causa. Durante la adolescencia, ocurren varios cambios fisiológicos que pueden llevar a la transformación de un proceso adolescente normal en un caso patológico. En este sentido, según los artículos más recientes, se observa que los adolescentes que presentan un estado depresivo expresan características fenomenológicas importantes, como irritabilidad e inestabilidad, presentando episodios de arrebatos e ira, pero por lo general no muestran tristeza. Además, los niños reportan sentimientos de desprecio y desafíos, mientras que las niñas reportan tristeza, ansiedad y preocupación por la popularidad. El enfoque terapéutico en adolescentes aún es un tema de cuestionamientos, pero la evidencia muestra que la terapia cognitivo-conductual y la terapia interpersonal presentan una mejoría clínica significativa en los pacientes, además del uso de antidepresivos, generalmente inhibidores de la serotonina.
