Uma construção é denominada sustentável quando acopla um conjunto de práticas adotadas antes durante e após os trabalhos de construção com o objetivo atender necessidades humanas agredindo ao mínimo o meio ambiente. Esse trabalho objetiva, por meio de pesquisa bibliográfica, apresentar vantagens e incentivar o crescimento de construções sustentáveis já que as mesmas geram muitos benefícios. O setor de construção civil é responsável por boa parte da extração de recursos naturais principalmente água, minerais e madeira. O desperdício de materiais na obra é grande, gerando quase metade dos resíduos sólidos urbanos, e pode ser reduzido junto com o consumo de água e energia elétrica. Problemas que podem ser minimizados com a o auxilio de obras sustentáveis, que auxiliam na diminuição de custos financeiros durante e após o projeto. Portanto para que essas construções se tornem realidade é necessário mudar o pensamento vigente aceitando novos paradigmas de construção e utilização dos recursos naturais.
