Abstract

Nanotechnology is a rapidly expanding science that has profoundly changed the course of the pharmaceutical and medicinal chemistry industries. By operating at the nanoscale, it is possible to control the physicochemical properties of materials, favoring the bioavailability, selectivity, and efficacy of drugs. This article aims to discuss the main applications of nanotechnology in pharmaceutical chemistry, addressing controlled-release systems, advanced diagnostics, and new pharmacological formulations. The research was conducted through a literature review in national and international scientific databases. It was found that nanotechnology provides significant gains in cancer treatments, infectious diseases, and vaccines, but still faces challenges regarding toxicity, stability, and regulation. Furthermore, it is observed that the development of nanosystems opens avenues for personalized medicine, allowing for safer, more effective, and innovative therapies capable of profoundly transforming the future of pharmacotherapy.
