Artificial Intelligence (AI) has been transforming several sectors, including the field of mental health. This article aims to analyze the main positive and negative impacts of AI on psychological well-being, considering both emotional support technologies and the risks related to technological dependence and the dehumanization of relationships. The study is based on a literature review of authors discussing the interaction between mental health and technological advances. The findings indicate that AI brings benefits such as increased access to virtual therapy, early diagnosis, and personalized treatment. However, ethical and psychological challenges remain, including social isolation, digital anxiety, and reduced empathy in human–machine interactions. It is concluded that AI can be a valuable tool in promoting mental health when applied responsibly and under human supervision.
