Dengue fever represents a serious public health problem on a global scale, being an endemic arboviral disease in Brazil, with a high incidence in the state of Piauí due to climatic and socioeconomic factors that favor the proliferation of the Aedes aegypti vector. Given this scenario, the present research sought to answer the following question: How are the epidemiological indicators configured and what are the main sociodemographic characteristics of dengue cases reported in Piauí between 2020 and 2024? The general objective was to analyze the epidemiological profile of dengue cases reported in the state during this period. To this end, a descriptive and retrospective epidemiological study was carried out, with a quantitative approach, based on publicly available secondary data from the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN/DATASUS). Cases reported in 2020, 2023, and 2024 were analyzed according to sex and age group using descriptive statistics. The results revealed a consistent epidemiological profile, with a higher prevalence of cases in females (approximately 55%) and a marked concentration in the 20-39 age group. An exponential increase in the number of notifications was observed throughout the period, contrasting the year 2020, possibly impacted by underreporting during the Covid-19 pandemic, with the epidemic outbreaks of 2023 and 2024. It is concluded that dengue fever in Piauí presents a well-defined demographic pattern, with specific vulnerabilities related to gender and age, the knowledge of which is fundamental for directing more effective surveillance, prevention, and control strategies adapted to the local reality.
