The postpartum period is marked by intense physical, hormonal, emotional, and social changes, which may predispose women to the development of Postpartum Depression (PPD), a mental disorder that affects the mother, the baby, and family dynamics. This study aimed to identify the main risk factors associated with PPD, analyzing their prevalence and interrelationship within the context of maternal health. An integrative literature review was conducted using the SciELO, PubMed, and LILACS databases, including studies published between 2020 and 2025. Ten studies addressing physiological, psychological, and social factors related to PPD, as well as prevention and intervention strategies, were selected. The results showed that women in situations of social vulnerability, with low educational levels, multiparity, lack of family support, history of mental disorders, unplanned pregnancy, and belonging to racially marginalized groups presented a higher risk for developing PPD. Domestic overload, unsatisfactory relationships, and traumatic gestational experiences were also identified as important determinants. The literature highlights the need for a multiprofessional approach, continuous screening during prenatal care and the puerperium, strengthening of family support, and implementation of educational actions and self-care promotion. It is concluded that PPD should not be considered a temporary condition, making the integrated action of healthcare professionals and public policies aimed at promoting social and racial equity essential to ensure prevention, monitoring, and early intervention.
