A preocupação com o manejo e descarte de resíduos sólidos é algo que vem ganhando cada vez mais espaço na atualidade, isso por que são materiais que podem poluir e contaminar, e quando se fala em resíduos provenientes da área da saúde essa questão fica ainda mais latente, visto que estes são materiais que contem um alto grau de contaminação, e deve ser conduzidos a um descarte adequado, reduzindo assim as chances de agressão ao meio ambiente e a Saúde Pública. O artigo vai abordar então como discussão central o plano de gerenciamento de resíduos de serviços de saúde (RSS) com base na legislação vigente, trazendo ainda a discussão quanto a relevância desse processo. O trabalho tem como objetivos, identificar as etapas do processo de gerenciamento, analisar a lesgilação pertinente e seus desdobramentos, compreender a relevância do projeto de gerenciamente para a saúde pública como um todo. A justificativa do tema se dá pela sua relevância social, visto que o cuidado com o meio ambiente e também com a saúde pública são essenciais para a manutenção da sociedade. A metodologia utilizada foi a pesquisa bibliográfica, com foco em leis, artigos e também na concepção de teóricos a respeito do tema.
