DISCOURSES ON THE TEACHING OF CORDEL LITERATURE IN PEDAGOGICAL MATERIALS: DISCURSIVE INTERPRETATION AND THE FETISH OF STRUCTURE

This study addresses the functioning of discourses on the teaching of cordel literature in Portuguese language textbooks and in a text comprehension activity disseminated on the internet. The use of this literary genre has become part of the pedagogical discourse in Basic Education in recent years in Brazil. This research involves two reading gestures: a) the discursive interpretation of textbooks on cordel poems; b) the interpretative movements of this study itself, which constitute a reading of the interpretation of the discourses of these pedagogical materials. This research work had the general objective of analyzing, in light of elements of Pecheutian French Discourse Analysis (AD), the functioning of discourses on the teaching of/and with cordel in Portuguese language textbooks. The problem of this study analyzed the misunderstandings, silences, erasures, lack, excess, estrangement, and incompleteness in the discourses on cordel disseminated in Portuguese language textbooks. The scientific basis, therefore, was the theoretical-methodological contribution of Pecheutian French Discourse Analysis. Regarding methodology, this research was qualitative in nature, and the method of analysis was descriptive-interpretative. As a result of these analyses and discussions, this research indicates that textbooks generally consider that interpretation is in the structure of the cordel (the meaning is there), from a formalist-logicist perspective. Therefore, these materials do not make the description-interpretation connection because they only focus on the description of linguistic materiality. These pedagogical materials, in the interpretation of the cordel poem, in light of the elements of Discourse Analysis, do not analyze the statements from the perspective of equivocation and unstable discursive spaces.
