PRINCIPAIS MANIFESTAÇÕES BUCAIS EM PACIENTES SUBMETIDOS À QUIMIOTERAPIA:
ABORDAGEM E TRATAMENTO ODONTOLÓGICO

As neoplasias malignas são consideradas atualmente uma das maiores causas de mortalidade no mundo. Considera-se que cerca de 70% dos pacientes oncológicos farão o uso da quimioterapia antineoplásica. Dentre estes, cerca de 40% desenvolverão manifestações bucais. As complicações na cavidade oral são decorrentes da imunossupressão causada pela toxicidade das drogas quimioterápicas administradas, tornando os indivíduos suscetíveis ao quadro infeccioso, podendo complicar no tratamento oncológico O paciente oncológico necessita do atendimento odontológico antes, durante e após a quimioterapia. O cirurgião-dentista é fundamental na equipe multidisciplinar, pois este tem o conhecimento detalhado de toda cavidade bucal bem como suas alterações, realizando o controle e adequação do meio bucal, eliminando focos de infecções. Quando há o comprometimento da mucosa oral durante a fase de tratamento, o cirurgião-dentista na equipe multiprofissional entra com a terapia de tratamento adequado e eficaz para cada manifestação oral, sendo elas lesões ou sequelas, buscando minimizar os danos ocasionados pelos efeitos das drogas quimioterápicas, garantindo uma melhor qualidade de vida e a sobrevida do paciente, pois suas complicações podem agravar as condições sistêmicas dos pacientes.
