O presente artigo analisa o cuidado em saúde como base da liderança em enfermagem, mais precisamente, seus desafios e perspectivas. O principal objetivo foi entender o conceito de cuidado em saúde e sua relação com a enfermagem. A liderança em enfermagem é altamente valorizada. Entende-se que os enfermeiros precisam estar preparados para liderar em todos os aspectos da assistência à saúde. A liderança é definida como “o processo de influenciar pessoas para atingir metas. Os conceitos-chave relacionados à liderança são influência, comunicação, processo de grupo, alcance de metas e motivação”. a liderança em si, já é um ato de cuidado, vislumbra o zelo e a atenção a um espaço, grupo ou momento. Uma atitude de cuidado é transmitida pela cultura da profissão, como forma exclusiva de lidar com o meio ambiente. As oportunidades para os enfermeiros obterem formação superior e se engajarem na análise de alto nível de problemas e preocupações em sua formação e prática assistencial permitiram à enfermagem combinar sua orientação humanística com a importância dessa ciência.
