PERFIL EPIDEMIOLÓGICO DA MENINGITE NO ESTADO DO PARANÁ NO PERÍODO DE 2013 A 2023

Meningitis corresponds to the occurrence of an infectious and/or inflammatory process localized in the brain's protective membranes, called meninges. This study aims to analyze and quantify the epidemiological profile and the occurrence of meningitis cases in the state of Paraná over a decade, from 2013 to 2023. The study reveals viral meningitis as the most frequent throughout the year, contrary to the typical seasonality of these infections, which is commonly associated with the opposite pattern, with bacterial meningitis linked to summer. The analysis also showed a higher incidence in the eastern macroregion of the state, especially in the metropolitan areas of Curitiba, Maringá, and Londrina. As expected, the most affected age group was the pediatric population in the first decade, from 0 to 9 years old.
