Este trabalho discute a mudança de nome civil no Brasil a partir das mudanças trazidas pela Lei nº 14.382/2022, bem como analisa seus impactos na vida das pessoas e no judiciário brasileiro. A relevância deste objeto de estudo decorre das consequências da nova lei, que atribui extrajudicialmente às conservatórias do registo civil das pessoas singulares o procedimento de alteração do nome, que, para o seu titular, é o principal elemento de identificação do ser humano, capaz por si só de produzir diversos efeitos, positivos ou negativos, no seio da sociedade. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa é apresentar as mudanças significativas na mudança de nome civil no país, abordando-a como um direito de personalidade, instituído pela Carta Magna de 1988, utilizando as ideias centrais de especialistas em direito civil.
