Resumo

Feathers play a crucial role in protecting birds from harsh weather, providing camouflage, and facilitating communication during the reproductive period. The coloration of feathers is influenced by the presence of carotenoids in the diet and can vary among shades of green, yellow, and red a phenomenon related to schizochroism that affects the expression of melanin. Both flavism and luteinism, characterized by the absence of melanin, result in chromatic alterations that may be triggered by factors such as hormonal disturbances and nutritional deficiencies. This is the first record of four chromatic mutation occurrences in bird species from the Pantanal Sul region.
