INFANT DEATHS BY CHAPTERS OF ICD-10 IN PARAÍBA IN 2020

This research aims to analyze the main causes, according to the Chapters of the ICD-10, infant deaths occurred in children under one year of age, in the State of Paraíba-PB in 2020. Using as methodology a descriptive and exploratory study, carried out through quantitative method, researched in the secondary database of Mortality Information Systems (SIM), available on the website of the Department of Informatics of the Unified Health System (DATASUS). Of the 715 deaths that occurred, 66.2% were classified as preventable causes, 50.9% occurred in the first week of life and the Chapter of ICD-10 that constituted the greatest cause of death was "Some diseases originated in the perinatal period". Among the causes included in the mortality list are the maternal factors, septicemia, hypoxia and asphyxia at birth, as well as the respiratory distress of the newborn. 72.9% had gestational age less than 37 weeks. It is clear the importance of these data for a focus on care during childbirth and postpartum pregnancy, adequate assistance for the mother/child binomial.
