Abstract

Falls from height constitute a serious public health issue in Brazil, extending beyond the boundaries of formal employment and requiring evidence-based preventive strategies. This study aimed to characterize vulnerability profiles in fatalities caused by falls from ladders (W11), scaffolds (W12), and buildings and other structures (W13), utilizing data from DATASUS (1996–2023). A quantitative data mining approach was adopted, applying the K-Means algorithm for segmentation by sex, age, and education level, validated using the Elbow and Silhouette methods. The results revealed the existence of a critical vulnerability core composed predominantly of men aged 50 to 59 years across all analyzed categories, with a specific profile of older adults (60–69 years) standing out in falls from ladders. In the highest-risk groups, the predominant education level was 4 to 7 years of schooling (incomplete elementary education). It is concluded that K-Means was effective in isolating risk patterns, demonstrating that fatalities severely affect aging workers with low educational attainment in occupational, domestic, and informal contexts.
