RELACIÓN DE MÉTODOS ACUÁTICOS EN PACIENTES CON DISTROFIA MUSCULAR DE DUCHENNE

La distrofia muscular de Duchenne (DMD) es una enfermedad genética que afecta principalmente a los niños, resultando en una pérdida progresiva de la fuerza muscular, con síntomas que comienzan entre los 3 y 5 años de edad. La fisioterapia acuática se centra en mantener la funcionalidad y prevenir complicaciones. A pesar de las intervenciones, la calidad de vida de los pacientes se ve afectada, incluyendo los aspectos físicos, psicológicos y sociales. Este estudio revisó cómo la fisioterapia puede beneficiar la calidad de vida de los pacientes con DMD. El artículo es una revisión de la literatura que analiza los métodos acuáticos para pacientes con distrofia muscular de Duchenne. Se utilizaron bases de datos como BVS, Lilacs y PubMed, con una búsqueda de artículos de los últimos 10 años en inglés, portugués, español y alemán. Se seleccionaron tres artículos. Se encontraron mejoras en el desempeño de tareas de movilidad funcional dentro y fuera del agua, junto con mejoras en los volúmenes inspiratorios y espiratorios, lo que podría indicar una posible relación entre el ejercicio acuático en DMD y las funciones respiratorias relacionadas con la participación funcional.
