LA IMPORTANCIA DEL MÉTODO DE INTEGRACIÓN SENSORIAL EN NIÑOS AUTISTAS DE NIVEL 3 DE APOYO:
UN INFORME DE CASO

Este artículo explora la importancia del trabajo terapéutico ocupacional basado en el enfoque de integración sensorial en la vida de niños con trastorno del espectro autista (TEA). La integración sensorial es el proceso de organización de la información sobre el cuerpo y el entorno, y es importante para el desarrollo de habilidades físicas, sociales y cognitivas. Sin embargo, muchos niños en el espectro del autismo enfrentan desafíos que dificultan su participación en la vida diaria.
Objetivo: Analizar, desde la percepción del terapeuta ocupacional, la relación entre la capacidad de autorregulación y la mejora del desempeño ocupacional. Metodología: Investigación basada en un estudio de caso con un enfoque cualitativo. Resultados: Seguimiento de un niño autista de 7 años que requiere un apoyo significativo en muchas áreas de su vida debido al TEA. Durante seis meses de actividades terapéuticas, realizadas dos veces por semana, el niño participó en un programa cuidadosamente planificado para apoyar su desempeño ocupacional y mejorar su autocontrol. Los resultados son alentadores: las habilidades motoras finas del niño mejoraron, su capacidad para jugar e interactuar con otros niños aumentó, y su habilidad para controlar sus emociones y frustraciones mostró avances significativos. Este éxito está respaldado por observaciones y estudios que demuestran cómo la terapia ocupacional puede ayudar a los niños a ser más autónomos y estar más comprometidos con las actividades diarias y escolares. Conclusión: Aunque este estudio tiene limitaciones, los resultados sugieren que la integración sensorial puede ser una herramienta poderosa en la terapia ocupacional para proporcionar el apoyo necesario en el desarrollo de niños con autismo, ya que considera la singularidad de cada niño, aumentando su independencia y calidad de vida.
