ENDOMETRITOS EN YEGUAS

La endometritis es la principal causa de fertilidad reducida en yeguas, además de generar importantes pérdidas económicas y productivas en la ganadería equina. La acumulación de líquido en la cavidad uterina de la yegua tras la inseminación se considera normal debido a la reacción fisiológica de limpieza que desarrolla el propio animal para eliminar la suciedad y el semen, reconocidos por el organismo como cuerpos extraños, preparando así el útero para la instalación del embrión. Este proceso debe ocurrir en un plazo de 24 a 72 horas. Por lo tanto, si se excede este plazo, la acumulación de líquido perjudica la salud reproductiva del animal, causando una endometritis persistente, que puede evolucionar a casos más graves, como la endometriosis degenerativa, lo que impide la reproducción del animal. La endometritis es la principal causa de infertilidad en yeguas y la tercera patología más importante en caballos. El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar una revisión sistemática sobre el tema, mostrando los principales signos clínicos, diagnóstico y tratamiento, y demostrando su importancia para la salud reproductiva de las yeguas.
