IMPACTO DEL RETRASO EN EL TRATAMIENTO ONCOLÓGICO CURATIVO EN PACIENTES CON CÁNCER DE PRÓSTATA DURANTE LA PANDEMIA DE COVID-19: UN ESTUDIO EN EL HOSPITAL DE CLÍNICAS DE LA UFG

La pandemia de COVID-19 ha impuesto serios desafíos al sistema de salud pública, impactando significativamente el diagnóstico y tratamiento de enfermedades crónicas, como el cáncer de próstata, el tipo más común en hombres. Este estudio busca analizar los efectos de la pandemia en el retraso entre el diagnóstico y el tratamiento quirúrgico (prostatectomía radical) de pacientes atendidos en el Hospital de Clínicas de la Universidad Federal de Goiás (HC-UFG), entre 2018 y 2023. Se trata de un estudio transversal, descriptivo y poblacional, con datos obtenidos de la plataforma pública TabNet/DATASUS. Los resultados revelan retrasos considerables en los años 2021 y 2022, con menos de la mitad de los pacientes operados hasta seis meses después del diagnóstico en estos períodos. El análisis indica que dichos retrasos pueden haber comprometido los resultados oncológicos, especialmente en pacientes de alto riesgo, como lo demuestran estudios previos. Se entiende que la pandemia ha exacerbado las debilidades del sistema de salud pública, reforzando la urgencia de estrategias que aseguren la continuidad de la atención oncológica durante las crisis de salud.
