DROGAS DE ABUSO Y EL DESARROLLO DE TRASTORNOS PSICÓTICOS

Resumen

La psicosis inducida por sustancias se refiere a los síntomas que surgen como resultado de los efectos fisiológicos causados por una sustancia exógena en el sistema nervioso central. Este trastorno se desarrolla a partir de la intoxicación o la abstinencia derivadas del consumo de sustancias de abuso y puede desencadenar episodios de alucinaciones, delirios y alteraciones psicomotoras. Una proporción significativa de pacientes que experimentan su primer episodio de psicosis inducida por drogas terminan desarrollando un trastorno psicótico crónico. En este contexto, este trabajo tiene como objetivo investigar las interacciones relacionadas con el uso indebido de sustancias psicoactivas con potencial de abuso y el desencadenamiento de trastornos psicóticos. La investigación se realizó mediante revisiones bibliográficas de las siguientes bases de datos: Biblioteca Nacional de Salud (BVS) y Biblioteca Nacional de Medicina de EE. UU. (PubMed). Se incluyeron estudios publicados entre 2015 y 2025 que abordaran directamente el tema y los mecanismos involucrados. Los resultados indicaron que sustancias como el cannabis y las anfetaminas están fuertemente asociadas con la inducción y el agravamiento de episodios psicóticos. El uso temprano y continuo demostró ser un factor determinante en la gravedad de los síntomas y la progresión de la psicosis inducida a trastornos crónicos, como la esquizofrenia. Por lo tanto, el abuso de drogas actúa como un factor desencadenante y potenciador de las enfermedades psicóticas, lo que refuerza la necesidad de estrategias preventivas y un seguimiento clínico especializado.
