REABILITAÇÃO ORAL EM PACIENTES SUBMETIDOS A TRATAMENTO ONCOLÓGICO DE CABEÇA E PESCOÇO

A reabilitação oral de pacientes submetidos ao tratamento oncológico de cabeça e pescoço apresenta diversos desafios, desde a dificuldade de um diagnóstico precoce até os efeitos adversos causados pelo tratamento antineoplásico e expressos principalmente na região de mucosa oral e tecido ósseo. Os efeitos da radiação ionizante, da quimioterapia e/ou da cirurgia podem gerar sequelas que comprometem a saúde, estética e bem-estar do paciente. Diante desse cenário, é fundamental que o Cirurgião-Dentista tenha conhecimento dos possíveis efeitos colaterais oriundos do tratamento, saiba analisar os sinais/sintomas afim de diagnosticar corretamente e esteja qualificado na conduta preventiva e terapêutica adequada, com o objetivo de reduzir o desconforto e favorecer a qualidade de vida do paciente. Nesse contexto, a conscientização e incentivo ao paciente, aliados ao acompanhamento do Cirurgião-Dentista durante todas as fases do tratamento, adequação do meio bucal, orientações preventivas e básicas de higiene bucal e o papel ativo no controle e tratamento das lesões bucais decorrente das terapias, são determinantes para um prognóstico favorável.
