CONHECIMENTO DE CIRURGIÕES-DENTISTAS DA ATENÇÃO PRIMÁRIA DE UMA CAPITAL DO NORDESTE BRASILEIRO A RESPEITO DA DISFUNÇÃO TEMPOROMANDIBULAR

A disfunção temporomandibular (DTM) compreende um conjunto de condições que afetam a articulação temporomandibular, a musculatura mastigatória e estruturas associadas, é um problema de saúde pública devido à sua prevalência e impacto negativo na qualidade de vida. A Atenção Primária à Saúde constitui a principal porta de entrada do Sistema Único de Saúde, os cirurgiões-dentistas que atuam nesse nível desempenham papel fundamental na identificação e manejo desses pacientes. Trata-se de um estudo observacional descritivo, realizado com cirurgiões-dentistas atuantes na APS do município de Teresina–PI. A coleta de dados ocorreu com um questionário semiestruturado, aplicado de forma remota e presencial, abordando as características sociodemográficas, formação e específicas do assunto. Os dados foram submetidos à análise estatística descritiva, participaram 62 cirurgiões-dentistas, majoritariamente do sexo feminino, com mais de 10 anos de formação e egressos de universidades públicas. A autoavaliação do conhecimento sobre DTM foi predominantemente regular, embora a maioria dos participantes afirmasse reconhecer pacientes com essa condição. Os achados evidenciam lacunas no conhecimento teórico-prático sobre DTM, em consonância com a literatura, que aponta limitações na formação acadêmica e na educação continuada sobre o tema. Conclui-se que estes profissionais da Atenção Primária à Saúde apresentam conhecimento intermediário sobre a disfunção temporomandibular, o que pode impactar negativamente o manejo clínico desses pacientes.
