Democracy, as a sustained and sustainable political regime based on popular participation, requires conscious citizens capable of understanding, discussing, and intervening in the direction of society. In this sense, this paper aims to analyze how political education is addressed in the SDGs, with a view to promoting a sustainable democracy in Brazil. Methodologically, this research adopts a qualitative approach to the problem. Regarding its nature, it is a basic and exploratory-descriptive research concerning its main objective. Concerning technical procedures, the bibliographic method was adopted, with literature review as the main technique for data and information collection and interpretation. Regarding analysis techniques, content analysis was employed. The results indicate that the public policies presented, although not specifically structured as formal political education policies, act in a cross-cutting manner on SDGs 4 and 16. Finally, it is concluded that such actions reinforce the understanding that political education, as a dimension of civic education, is indispensable both to guarantee the right to quality education and to ensure effective, inclusive democratic institutions based on the informed participation of society.
