Restorative restoration replacement is a frequent practice in dentistry, and it can directly impact the preservation of dental structure and the longevity of restorative treatments. In this context, minimally invasive approaches, such as repair, have been increasingly encouraged, provided they are based on well-established clinical criteria. This study aimed to analyze the prevalence and clinical criteria associated with restoration replacement and repair in patients treated at the Integrated Clinics I and II of the Dentistry course at the State University of Montes Claros (UNIMONTES). This is a descriptive, cross-sectional, quantitative, and retrospective study, conducted through the analysis of 196 dental records of patients over 18 years of age, treated between February 2019 and July 2024. Sociodemographic variables, anamnesis data, clinical conditions, restorative materials used, and therapeutic approaches adopted were evaluated. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, with absolute and relative frequencies. A predominance of females (67.3%) and an average age of 37.5 years were observed. Composite resin was the most frequent restorative material, both initially (65.2%) and after intervention (80%). Restoration replacement was the most prevalent procedure (60%), while repair was performed in a smaller proportion (16%). It is noteworthy that, in approximately 85% of the records, there was no record of the clinical criteria used for decision-making. It is concluded that there is a predominance of restoration replacement compared to repair, frequently performed without adequate documentation of clinical criteria. These findings highlight the need for greater standardization of clinical records and encouragement of the adoption of minimally invasive practices, based on scientific evidence, aiming at the preservation of dental structure and the improvement of the quality of dental care.
