Abstract

This article reports the first empirical application and psychometric validation of the Chadreque Model of Quality of Work Life (QWL), designed for African military institutions. Conducted at the Higher Institute for Defence Studies (ISEDEF), Mozambique, the study tested the model’s applicability, assessed perceptions across its twelve dimensions, and examined its diagnostic utility. A 58-item survey was administered to 72 professionals (military personnel, civilian instructors, administrative staff). Analyses comprised descriptive statistics and exploratory factor analysis (Varimax rotation). The KMO index (0.79) and Cronbach’s alpha coefficients (0.70–0.87) support internal consistency and dimensional adequacy. Results highlight high scores on symbolic dimensions (military identity, mission relevance) and lower scores on operational aspects (work–life balance, perceived organisational justice, working conditions). Findings indicate that the model is conceptually robust and psychometrically sound, suitable as a diagnostic tool in military contexts across the Global South and deserving of further longitudinal and comparative studies.
