KNOWLEDGE AND PRACTICES: HEALTH EDUCATION GROUP WITH HORTICULTURISTS IN PRIMARY CARE

Health promotion through education is essential within the context of the Family Health Strategy (FHS), especially in relevant topics and collective activities. This study aims to report the experience of the "Cultivating Health" project, developed by residents of the Family Health Residency Program at the State University of Piauí, in collaboration with horticulturists affiliated with a community garden in Teresina, Piauí. This qualitative and descriptive study was conducted between April and October 2025 through monthly meetings attended by 8 to 14 workers. The activities were planned and implemented by a multidisciplinary team, using active methodologies such as discussion groups and group dynamics. Topics covered included chronic disease prevention, women's health, ergonomics, physical activity, oral health, mental health, older adults' rights, healthy eating, and integrative and complementary practices. The results showed that the garden group served as a space for knowledge exchange, socialization, and the promotion of well-being. It established a bond between professionals and the community, valued popular knowledge, and encouraged participants to take an active role. For residents, the experience fostered critical reflections on healthcare. Projects like this strengthen social participation and bring these participants closer to the local Basic Health Unit, where they rarely visited previously.
