Abstract

The Pilates method has been widely used in both clinical and gym settings, promoting significant improvements in flexibility, coordination, and body stability. However, its relationship with muscle hypertrophy is still the subject of intense scientific discussion. This study aimed to investigate, through a literature review, the effects of Pilates on strength and muscle development in clinically healthy adults. Several studies exploring the application of the method in different contexts were analyzed, comparing it with traditional resistance training. The results indicated that Pilates can indirectly contribute to lean mass gain and improved muscle performance, especially when associated with resistance training programs. Therefore, it is concluded that the method can be used as a highly effective complementary strategy for improving strength and motor efficiency, promoting overall health and physical performance of each individual.
