Abstract

The implementation of patient-centered care has been increasingly recognized as a fundamental approach for improving healthcare services, particularly in contexts where the quality of care and patient safety are considered key priorities. In this perspective, the reorganization of healthcare practices around the needs, values, and preferences of individuals represents an important transformation in the way healthcare systems structure their care processes. This study aims to analyze the challenges and impacts associated with the implementation of patient-centered care in healthcare services, considering its implications for healthcare quality and patient safety. This is a theoretical and analytical study based on the examination of recent scientific literature addressing patient-centered care and its effects on the organization of healthcare services. The analysis indicates that the adoption of this care model contributes to strengthening communication between healthcare professionals and patients, promoting greater patient participation in therapeutic decisions and improving the overall healthcare experience. However, the findings also highlight important challenges related to work organization, structural conditions of healthcare services, and the need for cultural transformations within healthcare institutions. It is concluded that patient-centered care represents a relevant strategy for developing more humanized and responsive healthcare practices, although its effective implementation requires continuous institutional efforts aimed at reorganizing work processes, strengthening clinical communication, and valuing the active participation of patients in the care process.
