Introduction: The recognition of ASD as a lifelong condition has broadened attention to diagnosis in adults, who have historically been overlooked. Despite the use of screening instruments, challenges and gaps remain in the validation of these tools, especially in the Brazilian context. Objective: To describe, through a literature review, the scientific evidence on the validation of screening instruments for ASD in adults, focusing on their psychometric properties, applicability, and limitations in the clinical and cultural context. Literature Review: The scientific perspective on ASD in adults has grown, seeking to overcome historical gaps left by the focus on childhood. Instruments such as the AQ and SRS-A assist in screening, but have limitations and should be used with caution. Thus, the importance of a broader assessment, considering comorbidities, life context, and the uniqueness of each individual, is highlighted. Conclusion: Research on ASD in adults has advanced, and instruments such as the AQ, SRS-A, and RAADS-R assist in initial screening, although they have limitations.
