A falta de conhecimento e conscientização sobre os benefícios e técnicas de implementação dos telhados verdes entre os profissionais da construção civil e proprietários de edifícios levou os autores a realizar este estudo. Estas razões incluem a falta de informações e de políticas públicas que promovam o uso dos telhados verdes, o que pode dificultar sua realização e limitar seu potencial de vantagens ambientais e econômicas. Portanto, justifica-se a realização deste estudo sobre telhados verdes para promover o conhecimento, conscientização e adoção dessa prática sustentável, visando melhorar os impactos ambientais e proporcionar benefícios econômicos para os proprietários de edifícios. O objetivo geral deste artigo é de abordar o uso do telhado verde como alternativa sustentável nos centros urbanos. A proposta metodológica aplicada para materializar este estudo refere-se da utilização da pesquisa bibliográfica exploratória e descritiva, com base em livros, revistas e artigos científicos para formulação de referências e informações relativas ao tema. Salienta-se que, para um melhor desenvolvimento da pesquisa, também foi realizada a análise de outros estudos pertinentes, dada a amplitude da temática. Este estudo servirá como um direcionamento da capacidade da inovação verde para transformar os desafios ambientais urbanos em oportunidades para o desenvolvimento sustentável. Com a crescente adoção de telhados verdes, podemos vislumbrar um futuro no qual nossas cidades reflitam mais profundamente os valores de sustentabilidade, resiliência e comunhão com a natureza.
