DEL FERROCARRIL A LA CARRETERA: LA TRANSICIÓN MODAL Y SUS IMPLICACIONES PARA LA GESTIÓN VIAL EN MINAS GERAIS

Este artículo analiza la transición del transporte ferroviario al transporte por carretera en Minas Gerais y sus implicaciones para la gestión vial estatal, contextualizando la creación y consolidación del Departamento de Carreteras de Minas Gerais (DER-MG). La investigación indaga el período entre 1869 y 1970, abarcando la expansión del ferrocarril, su declive y el auge de las carreteras como principal medio de transporte. A través de la revisión bibliográfica y el análisis documental, el estudio examina los factores políticos, económicos y técnicos que motivaron esta transformación modal. Los resultados muestran que la transición consolidó el modelo brasileño centrado en las carreteras, exigiendo la estructuración de agencias estatales especializadas en la gestión vial. Concluye que el DER-MG surgió como una respuesta institucional a las nuevas necesidades de infraestructura, reflejando cambios en las políticas de transporte público que aún influyen en la gestión vial contemporánea.
