SEGURIDAD ALIMENTARIA Y NUTRICIONAL EN LA ZONA SUR DE HONDURAS EN 2022: UN ESTUDIO DESDE LAS DINÁMICAS TERRITORIALES Y FAMILIARES

La seguridad alimentaria y nutricional (SAN) en Honduras enfrenta desafíos persistentes, especialmente en la zona sur, donde los hogares enfrentan múltiples factores de vulnerabilidad, como limitaciones socioeconómicas, acceso desigual a recursos y exposición a desastres naturales. Este artículo analiza la SAN en hogares del sur del país, enfocándose en patrones de consumo, diversidad dietética y factores que condicionan la vulnerabilidad alimentaria. Se empleó un enfoque mixto con datos secundarios del Instituto Nacional de Estadística (INE) y otras fuentes oficiales, aplicando la metodología CARI, que permite clasificar la SAN considerando consumo de alimentos, diversidad dietética, vulnerabilidad económica y estrategias de afrontamiento frente a la escasez alimentaria. La muestra incluyó 499 hogares. Los resultados muestran que el 16 % de los hogares alcanzó seguridad alimentaria, el 53 % presentó seguridad marginal, el 30 % mostró inseguridad moderada y el 1 % se encontraba en situación de inseguridad severa, evidenciando que más de la mitad de los hogares se encuentra en estado de vulnerabilidad que limita el acceso a una alimentación adecuada y estable. El análisis dietético indicó dependencia de grasas, carbohidratos y azúcares, con bajo consumo de frutas, raíces y otros alimentos ricos en micronutrientes, lo que sugiere posibles deficiencias en vitaminas, fibra y minerales. Aunque el consumo de proteínas de origen animal y vegetal fue relativamente alto, la ingesta regular de hierro y micronutrientes críticos resultó insuficiente. Los hogares presentan vulnerabilidades estructurales: bajo nivel educativo de los jefes de hogar y acceso limitado a servicios básicos como agua potable, saneamiento y energía mejorada. Estas condiciones afectan directamente la capacidad de mantener dietas saludables y diversificadas. Se concluye que, pese al acceso general a alimentos, persisten desequilibrios nutricionales y vulnerabilidades socioeconómicas, evidenciando la necesidad de fortalecer políticas públicas y estrategias integrales de SAN sostenible, incorporando intervenciones en educación, salud, infraestructura y diversificación alimentaria, en línea con la PyENSAN 2030 y los Objetivos de Desarrollo Sostenible.
