FUERZA DE AGARRE MANUAL EN ADULTOS MAYORES QUE VIVEN EN LA COMUNIDAD: DISTRIBUCIÓN Y FACTORES ASOCIADOS.

Objetivo: Caracterizar la fuerza de prensión manual (FPM) y sus factores asociados en personas mayores que viven en comunidades del noreste de Brasil. Metodología: Este es un estudio transversal, desarrollado con 85 personas mayores, que utilizó dinamometría manual (Jamar®) como marcador de funcionalidad, adoptando puntos de corte estratificados por las medianas de cada sexo (31 kgf para hombres y 20,5 kgf para mujeres). Resultados: Los resultados revelaron que, aunque la FPM se conservó en la mayoría de la población estudiada (64,7%), un porcentaje significativo del 35,3% presentó fuerza reducida. La disminución de la fuerza se asoció significativamente con determinantes sociodemográficos: sexo femenino (p < 0,01), estado civil soltero (p = 0,048) y bajos ingresos familiares (p = 0,03). Se observó que la fuerza reducida fue prevalente entre mujeres (83,3%) e individuos con ingresos hasta R$ 1.518,00 (70%), mientras que los hombres y las personas mayores casadas concentraron las tasas más altas de fuerza conservada. Las variables clínicas y de estilo de vida, como la polifarmacia, las comorbilidades y el nivel de actividad física, no mostraron una asociación estadísticamente significativa, aunque un estado nutricional normal mostró una tendencia hacia la preservación de la fuerza. Conclusión: Se concluye que la PPF (Fuerza Potencial Periférica) puede verse influenciada por factores sociales y biológicos, con una concentración significativa de variables socioeconómicas como factores que impactan la reserva funcional. Estos hallazgos refuerzan la importancia de la PPF como herramienta de detección temprana en atención primaria para apoyar acciones dirigidas a retrasar el deterioro funcional y promover la independencia en el envejecimiento.
